MYTH 1
MYTH 1: Your credit score will drop if you check your own credit.
TRUTH: According to TransUnion, checking your credit report counts only as a “soft inquiry” and does not change your score. However, “Hard inquiries” checked by a lender or a creditor (such as department store, auto dealers, rental companies; sometimes applying to rent, requesting credit limit increases, cell phone contracts, renting a car, opening cable or internet service, or opening a bank account) can slightly lower your credit score.
